Our primary goal at OHC is to achieve the best outcome for each patient. For some, this will be a cure, but for others we will eventually need to deal with a disease process which cannot be cured.
Palliative and hospice care refer to the comprehensive management of physical symptoms, social and spiritual needs of patients with incurable illness. This is typically done with the help of a hospice program., often Hospice of Cincinnati for Ohio patients and St. Elizabeth Hospice for Kentucky residents. Indiana also has a hospice program.
A shift to palliative/hospice care is not an indication that death is imminent. Rather, it is an attempt to emphasize quality of life when traditional treatment is no longer effective and may in fact be the source of suffering.
Information regarding specific programs is available at each of our locations. Feel free to ask any nurse or physician for further information about when and if this approach is appropriate for you.
