HEMATOLOGY

A hematologist is a physician with at least 2 years of training after a 3 year Internal Medicine residency specializing in disorders of the blood.  This includes the evaluation of abnormal bleeding (for example hemophilia) and clotting. A hematologist also evaluates benign and malignant disorders of the blood cells. This covers a broad spectrum of diseases ranging from anemia to leukemia. Other hematologic malignancies such as Hodgkin’s Disease, Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and Multiple Myeloma are treated by a physicians with this training.
